If I know I’m being investigated, should I wait until after I get arrested to hire a lawyer?

If you know you’re being investigated, it’s very important to speak with a lawyer as soon as possible. Your lawyer can negotiate with police and prosecutors, and help you avoid being arrested without warning as well as protect you from making common mistakes in dealing with authorities which could make things worse down the road. There are also situations where your lawyer can even work toward an alternate resolution, which may avoid the filing of criminal charges. Hiring a defense lawyer during an investigation could also help you save on legal fees. My fees are much less during the preliminary stages of a case than once a case is in court. If we can get something constructive done during the investigative stage of your case, it could save you the expense involved in a full-blown courtroom defense.
